Realism - A definition

Defining the word ‘Realism’ has always given trouble, however the English Oxford Dictionary definition would argue against this stating:
‘Close resemblance to what is real, fidelity of representation

Realism

I’ve chosen to research the art movement ‘Realism’ for my assignment. I chose Realism over the likes of art movements such as Surrealism and Dada not because i dislike Surrealism or it’s counter parts, i am facsinated by it, but it is something that i myself will never completley understand.

This is mainly why Realism appeals to me more, I favour the beauty of straight, untampered, real life images that show the world how everyone see’s it. Also for the fact Realism links very closlely with Photography, photographers and realism painters and artists look at the world in the same way through an unaltered eye and lens.
